My principal place of residence is in the Dunedin City Council Area.I have lived in Dunedin for the past 17 years and I appreciate Dunedin as a great place to live, work, and raise my family. My wife and I live in Dunedin with our three children who all attend local schools. I am a Professional Paramedic with the ambulance service. I want to ensure that Dunedin is an affordable place to live, therefore I am campaigning for no further rate increases. I want to continue the work of breathing life into the central city, breaking down barriers to achieve this aim. We need to continue to work to manage climate change and its effects, particularly in South Dunedin. I want to ensure that we have a compassionate, coordinated approach as we work towards eliminating homelessness in Dunedin. My candidacy is about a better Dunedin for all.

Priorities on Council

Dunedin is a fantastic and unique city, and I am proud to call it my home as I raise my family here. Together, we cherish all that our vibrant city offers, feeling privileged to live in Wildlife Capital of New Zealand. The community spirit is strong, yet Dunedin is large enough to provide essential city services. While there are challenges to address, I believe that with management, we can make Dunedin an even better place to live. My candidacy focuses on four key issues that I am dedicated to tackling for the benefit of our community.

No Further Rate Increases this term. As a city we acknowledge that we face challenges with infrastructure and development whilst also providing essential services. However, this must also be an affordable city for all. I beleive that the council must operate within its means. The people of Dunedin should not face increaseing rates increases. I beleive that the Dunedin City Council should not further burden ratepayers with increasing rates costs.

A Compassionate, Coordinated Approach to Eliminating Homelessness in Dunedin. I cannot begin to imagine how difficult life is without the security of a home. In my time in Dunedin I have watched homelessness increase and become a large issue. This is not who we are as a city. There are many wonderful organizations and groups who work alongside government departments in attemtping to releive the suffering of those who have found themselves in a situation where they do not have the security of a home. I am suggesting that the Council has a role to play in listening to all of these groups and then working together in a compassionate and coordinated way as we eliminate homelessness in Dunedin. We all do well when our most vulnerable are looked after.

Managing the Effects of Climate Change, particularly in South Dunedin. There are about 10000 households in South Dunedin, a real community. Many of these households are at continued risk of flooding. The council needs to continue to work at pace to manage this situation with acceptable solutions. This work needs to take into account environmental needs, balanced with the needs of those who live in the community. I believe that this work needs to be prioritized, advocating for the people of South Dunedin at a Central Government level whilst leading appropriate responsess locally.

Lets continue to Breath Life back into the Central City. Central Dunedin is a great place but we need to encourage more people to experiences its greatness. A buzzing central city is good for all, businesses and individuals alike. We need to explore how to grow the central city and to not be afraid to break down barriers in this space, either with better parking, transport or other options to contine to make central Dunedin a real attraction where everyone wants to be. We need balanced solutions in breathing life back into the city.
